BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Women’s National Teams Lead is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic, operational and financial management of Football Australia’s Women’s National Teams, including the CommBank Matildas and pathway programs.

Reporting to the Head of National Teams, this role oversees all team operations, including planning and delivery of national team programs, budget management and match scheduling.

The role plays a critical part in delivering high performance outcomes by implementing the National Teams Collective Bargaining Agreement (2023–2027), ensuring world-class standards across all programs and creating an elite, best-practice operational environment for players and staff.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the strategic planning, delivery and continuous improvement of Women’s National Teams programs
  • Oversee operational, administrative and logistical planning across all WNT activities and international campaigns
  • Manage team budgets, financial forecasting and ensure compliance with financial policies and CBA obligations
  • Drive high performance standards and operational excellence across all teams and programs
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including clubs, leagues, governing bodies and commercial partners
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Commercial, Events, Media, Marketing, Finance and Legal teams
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing direction, coaching and performance feedback
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, governance and integrity requirements (including FIFA, AFC and national obligations)
  • Support scheduling of matches, tournaments and camps, including international engagement opportunities
  • Oversee player and staff welfare, ensuring a safe, inclusive and high-performance environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in elite sport or team operations leadership, ideally within high-performance environments
  • Strong understanding of the women’s football landscape in Australia and internationally
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex budgets and operational planning
  • Exceptional stakeholder management with the ability to influence across diverse groups
  • Experience coordinating domestic and international team logistics and campaigns
  • Strong leadership capability with experience building and leading high-performing teams
  • Excellent communication, planning and project management skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary qualification in Sport Management, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in sport management, team operations or high-performance environments
