Job Description
NBCU Local Chicago is looking for a Sports Executive Producer for WMAQ and WSNS. This role is responsible for the overall direction, tenor & style of sports department coverage for WMAQ & WSNS. Preferred candidates will have a journalism background with experience in a sports newsroom. The Sports Executive Producer role requires extreme attention to detail and the ability to thrive in an independent, deadline-oriented setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with talent & producers to further develop their skills & our coverage
Coordinate with news department leadership on major breaking sports news/events on how coverage will be handled
Provide constant feedback as well as official mid-year and year-end reviews
Responsible for oversight of sports department budget
Responsible for overseeing and approving all travel
Leading role in planning for long-term NBC events/projects like NASCAR & Marathon
Work across departments to make sure network initiatives are integrated smoothly
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of journalism and/or production experience
Must be a skilled writer with outstanding communication skills
Must be a self-starter, capable of working independently
Must be able to work night and weekend hours
BS/BA degree preferably in journalism, communications, or marketing
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
Excellent attention to detail and copy-editing skills
Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal
Ability to learn custom content management systems
Experience in broadcast newsrooms, local news or other news areas is a big plus
