Job Description

NBCUniversal is seeking a Senior Manager, SEO & AI Search Strategy to lead Media Group search optimization. This role will serve as a senior strategic leader responsible for advancing traditional SEO performance while defining and operationalizing NBCUniversal’s approach to the future of search, including generative AI, answer engines, and off-platform discovery.

This role operates across multiple brands within NBCUniversal Media Group. The Senior Manager will partner closely with editorial leaders, product managers, engineers, audience teams, and platform stakeholders to scale best practices, drive technical and product roadmaps, and ensure NBCUniversal content remains highly discoverable, authoritative, and competitive as search ecosystems rapidly evolve.

This will report directly to Sr. Director, Web Strategy with significant cross-functional influence and visibility.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise SEO & Editorial Leadership

Serve as a senior strategic partner to SEO editors and digital editorial teams supporting growth, governance, and evolution of editorial SEO practices.

Provide guidance, frameworks, and best practices for content optimization, authority building, and search-driven storytelling across multiple sports-focused and entertainment brands.

Act as a connective leader to align search strategies across business units.

Product & Technical SEO Leadership

Lead and influence the SEO product roadmap in partnership with product and engineering teams across multiple CMSs and platforms.

Proactively identify technical SEO risks, opportunities, and future-proofing needs related to crawling, indexing, rendering, structured data, performance, accessibility, and site architecture.

Partner with product teams to ensure SEO considerations are embedded into roadmap planning, platform enhancements, and major launches.

AI Search, GEO & Future-State Discovery

Lead an AI Search Steering Committee to define and advance NBCUniversal’s approach to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), and AI-driven discovery.

Develop frameworks for optimizing content and platforms for visibility within AI-powered search experiences, agents, assistants, and emerging off-platform ecosystems.

Guide experimentation and learning around prompt influence, structured data, authority signals, content readability, and off-platform distribution.

Translate emerging trends in AI search into clear implications, priorities, and action plans for editorial, product, and leadership teams.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Team Leadership

Directly manage, develop, and scale the existing SEO team. Provide ongoing mentorship, training, and professional development to ensure the team remains at the forefront of evolving best practices.

Serve as a senior advisor capable of influencing without direct authority, building trust and momentum across multiple business units.

Communicate complex technical and strategic concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders.

Measurement, Insights

Establish success metrics and KPIs across traditional SEO and AI search initiatives.

Monitor performance, algorithm changes, platform shifts, and competitive landscapes, adjusting strategies as needed.

Share insights, recommendations, and forward-looking perspectives with internal teams and leadership.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

7+ years of experience in SEO, preferably within enterprise media.

Deep expertise in both editorial and technical SEO.

Proven experience partnering with product and engineering teams to influence roadmaps and drive technical SEO initiatives.

Strong understanding of the evolving search landscape, including generative AI, AI Overviews, answer engines, and off-platform discovery.

Demonstrated ability to operate at a senior level, including managing direct reports.

Excellent communication skills and comfort presenting to senior stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working across multiple brands, business units, or platforms within a large enterprise.

Familiarity with AI platforms, LLM-driven search experiences, and emerging GEO/AEO methodologies.

Background in sports, news, or entertainment media environments.

Additional Requirements

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
