BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The Senior Commercial Manager is a high‑performance, results‑driven role responsible for driving commercial revenue across Football Australia’s non‑national team assets, including the Australia Cup, National Premier Leagues (NPL) and community and grassroots football programs. 

Focusing on new business acquisition, this role is dedicated to monetising Football Australia’s domestic competitions as standalone premium products by closing the gap between football’s scale at community level and commercial yield. It identifies and secures category partners who value football’s unmatched reach, participation base and local engagement. 

Working closely with the Head of Commercial Revenue and broader commercial teams, the role plays a key part in positioning Football Australia’s domestic competitions as compelling B2C platforms for commercial partners. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Lead end‑to‑end sales activity to secure new partners for the Australia Cup, NPL and community football programs 
  • Proactively target uncontracted, high‑value categories aligned to community and grassroots football 
  • Position domestic competitions as premium B2C commercial platforms leveraging Football Australia’s national participation base 
  • Develop compelling commercial propositions that highlight scale, engagement and return on investment 
  • Collaborate with Strategy & IP to ensure domestic competition assets are innovatively packaged and data‑led 
  • Maintain a disciplined sales pipeline with accurate forecasting and deal progression 
  • Provide regular pipeline updates and market insights to the Head of Commercial Revenue 
  • Work closely with the Partnerships team to support successful onboarding and delivery of competition‑specific entitlements 
  • Contribute to strengthening Football Australia’s domestic competition commercial strategy 

 

ROLE OUTCOMES/ DELIVERABLES 

Success in this role will see: 

  • Achievement of annual new business revenue targets across domestic competitions 
  • Expansion of the partner portfolio into new B2C and community‑aligned categories 
  • Improved commercial yield and market relevance of domestic competitions 
  • High conversion of competition‑specific prospects through data‑driven pitching 
  • Strong pipeline discipline supporting reliable forecasting and reporting 
  • Effective collaboration with partnerships and delivery teams to ensure strong partner experience 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Proven experience securing sponsorships or partnerships, particularly within B2C or mass‑participation environments 
  • Strong understanding of grassroots sport and community‑based competition ecosystems 
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and close multi‑year commercial agreements 
  • Ability to articulate the commercial value of participation data and consumer engagement 
  • Strong sales discipline, forecasting capability and pipeline management skills 
  • Established network within retail, FMCG or community‑focused corporate sectors 
  • Experience developing innovative or non‑traditional commercial assets within sport 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Tertiary qualification in business, marketing or a related commercial discipline 
  • Postgraduate qualifications in sports management or business administration (MBA) (desirable)  
  • Certifications in data analytics, strategic marketing or commercial analysis (desirable)
