Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. Job Description
Based in London and reporting to the SVP of Marketing & Publicity, the UPCG Publicity team is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and project management of integrated publicity campaigns across all UPCG and select Focus Features releases globally across the entire lifecycle of the release – from pre-production through to production, theatrical, home entertainment, TV/SVOD and beyond!
The team’s purpose is to ensure all campaigns meet strategic objectives and support business priorities. We consistently collaborate with internal and external teams to provide strategic publicity input alongside broader marketing strategy contributions to ensure the execution of holistic marketing campaigns globally. The UPCG team not only works on a global strategical level but is also here to work with local publicity teams to understand specific local market strategies, concerns and nuances. This is a new role designed to champion and oversee UPCG’s special interest slate which encompasses documentaries, events, special interest, theatre music, sports, family entertainment and stand-up comedy. It reports to the VP, Publicity and there will be a degree of travel and work outside of office hours. Key responsibilities include development and co-ordination of publicity campaigns across a range of projects as well as maintenance of good working relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
Act as principal point of contact for filmmakers, licensors, talent, internal stakeholders and local territory distributors/partners for your slate of titles
Close liaison with territory publicists/agencies - cross territory collaboration, Approving and writing global PR Guidelines and big idea sharing
Understand and represent local territory campaign needs in terms of creative, content, promotions
Partnership development and accountability (e.g. local distributors, broadcast partners and music)
Foster positive and productive relationships with talent reps, producers and licensors
Manage, challenge and facilitate agencies
Overseeing and attending set visits, press trips, premieres, festival launches, awards campaigning etc.
Source and build strategies around assets, creating materials to support publicity / digital activities
Support VP, Publicity in running of the overall Publicity Team, taking a wider view approach to department operations and performance
Responsible for managing the publicity budget for their slate of titles
People management responsibilities - ensuring they receive support and their growth & development is championed.
Communication
Work closely with VP Publicity and various team leaders on each designated title to develop and execute a strategic publicity plan through to release
Build effective working relationships across the marketing team, reporting on campaign progress.
Build and foster effective relationships with key external licensor and filmmaking partners
Work with cross divisional teams to drive synergies across NBCU. Ensure regular updates are given to the head of the department and team leaders on any given campaign.
Act as point of escalation for any immediate issues that need mitigation.
Innovation
Seek out new and different approaches and ideas to bring freshness to each project whilst ensure that recommended ideas are within strategy.
Proactively bring and embrace new and different ideas and examples of innovative publicity and content distribution – whether tactical or strategic – to attention of the publicity/marketing team to spark new thinking.
Leverage use of data to inform and expand publicity campaign planning and opportunities.
Qualifications
Leadership experience in entertainment publicity (essential)
Staff management and mentoring (essential)
Red carpet / premiere event management (desirable)
Strong knowledge of the UK media landscape (desirable)
Ability to self-motivate, show initiative and tenacity at all times
Solution orientated, commercially focused and deadline driven
Exercises high judgement, particularly in narrow time frames
Outstanding oral and written communication skills and ability to distil information into simple messages
Able to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders
