We are seeking a full-time Physical Education Floating Teacher beginning September 2026. This position provides instructional coverage across the Physical Education Department in the event of faculty absences, supports classes and activities that require additional supervision, and includes coaching responsibilities, in alignment with the values and ethical standards of The Dalton School.

The Physical Education Floating Teacher reports to the Director of Athletics and Physical Education and works closely with members of the Physical Education and Athletics teams to ensure continuity of instruction, student safety, and program support across divisions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assume the instructional and supervisory responsibilities of an absent Physical Education teacher, following established lesson plans and maintaining classroom management and safety expectations.
  • Support Physical Education classes and activities across grades 3–12 that require additional supervision.
  • Collaborate with teachers following their return to ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Assist with arrival, dismissal, and other supervisory duties to ensure student safety.
  • Coach middle school teams and at least one high school team each academic year.
  • Participate in professional learning and contribute to ongoing departmental development.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary in support of the Physical Education and Athletics programs.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field required.
  • Prior experience teaching Physical Education across multiple age groups preferred.
  • Coaching experience required; ability to coach at least one interscholastic team.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and follow established lesson plans while exercising sound professional judgment.
