The Role

As the Grounds & Maintenance Officer – Whitsunday Coast, you will take ownership of presentation, safety, and performance of football fields and facilities across Mackay Football Park.

Working independently and supported by the Region Manager – Whitsunday Coast, you will plan and deliver all turf maintenance activities including mowing, irrigation, fertilising, spraying, aeration, and general field preparation.

You will play a key role in ensuring fields are not only ready for play – but consistently maintained to a standard that maximises safety, performance, and availability throughout the season.

From weekly maintenance schedules through to match-day preparation, your work directly impacts the quality of football experience delivered across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver consistently safe, high-quality playing surfaces aligned with Football Queensland standards
  • Plan and carry out all ground’s maintenance including mowing, irrigation, fertilising, spraying, aeration, and edging
  • Manage irrigation systems and watering schedules to optimise turf health
  • Prepare facilities for training, matches, and events to a professional standard
  • Monitor field conditions and manage usage to maximise availability and surface quality
  • Maintain equipment, manage supplies, and complete minor repairs as required
  • Operate in line with all WHS requirements, including safe machinery use and chemical handling
  • Work collaboratively with staff, contractors, clubs, and stakeholders to maintain consistent standards
  • Support operational and event delivery requirements across the region

About You

You are someone who takes pride in your work and understands that great playing surfaces don’t happen by chance – they’re built through consistency, care, and attention to detail.

You bring:

  • Experience in grounds, turf, or sports field maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of mowing, irrigation, fertilisation, and turf care practices
  • Understanding of sports field standards and presentation expectations
  • Confidence in operating and maintaining grounds equipment
  • Awareness of WHS requirements and safe chemical handling
  • Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes
  • A proactive, reliable, and detail-focused approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to work weekends and operational hours when required
  • A valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) **NO Card NO Start

Desirable

  • Certificate in Horticulture or related field
  • Experience managing sports turf or community facilities
  • Basic skills in carpentry, plumbing, or mechanical maintenance

Other Requirements

This role requires flexibility to work outside standard hours, including weekends and evenings, aligned with competition and event schedules.
