Primary Purpose of Role
The Officer – Community Competitions plays a key role in delivering football competitions smoothly and professionally within Football Queensland (FQ). This role focuses on:
- Building strong relationships with clubs, regions, and other football stakeholders.
- Supporting the broader Football Queensland competitions team, particularly across the SEQ Region and advanced Leagues Clubs.
- Creating an enjoyable environment for participants, clubs and volunteers.
The role contributes directly to the strategic pillars of Football Queensland’s Strategic Plan (2023 – 2026):

- Support and empower clubs and volunteers
- Understand the needs of customers (players, clubs, stakeholders)
- Communicate Football Queensland’s value clearly and effectively

- Collaborate with all football stakeholders to deliver a consistent experience
- Help roll out technology solutions to improve operational efficiency
Key Areas of Responsibility
As part of the Competitions team, the Officer – Community Competitions will be expected to contribute across the following areas:
Competitions Administration & Delivery
- Support the end-to-end administration of all FQ Community Competitions across Queensland.
- Manage fixture scheduling, match results, and maintain the integrity of competitions through enforcement of relevant rules and regulations.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of seasonal carnivals, including coordination of fixtures and match logistics.
Systems & Technology
- Build a strong working knowledge of FQ’s Competition Management System (CMS) and technology platforms.
- Use digital tools to streamline competition operations, reporting, and data management.
Stakeholder Engagement
Work Collaboratively with:
- The Referees department to ensure smooth match delivery.
- Affiliated clubs to support growth, development, and competition compliance.
- Handle minor disputes between clubs, ensuring alignment with the Rules of Competition.
- Escalate major issues to the Manager – Statewide Community Competitions.
Compliance and Governance
- Monitor and enforce team/club adherence to competition regulations.
- Ensure fair play, procedural integrity, and consistency across all leagues.
Customer Service & Communication
- Provide a high level of customer service to clubs, players, referees, volunteers, and internal departments.
- Attend club meetings, workshops, and events to enhance transparency and collaboration.
Event Support & Travel
- Assist with delivery of major football events (e.g., Grand Finals, Cup matches, and Carnivals).
Professional Development
- Attend internal and external training sessions, workshops, and event to continually build competition administration expertise.
Key Selection Criteria – Officer: Community Competitions
Essential Criteria:
- Must hold a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check – QLD).
- Proven mature and professional approach to stakeholder communication.
- Committed to delivering exceptional service to broad range of stakeholders (e.g., clubs, volunteers, referees).
- Able to build rapport quickly, particularly with volunteers and club administrators.
- Comfortable dealing with both grassroots and professional stakeholders.
- Understand key terminology, rules and policies related to football competition management (e.g., fixtures, results, disputes, FA regulations).
- Excellent written and verbal communication across multiple formats; phone, email, video conferencing, face-to-face, and messaging platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Comfortable using online competition management systems or willing to learn.
- High level of accuracy in scheduling, communication and documentation.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively, and start processes under direction.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Assist with tasks such as calendar coordination, travel arrangements, and general admin support when needed.
- High level of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Queensland geography.
- Ideally an understanding of the football landscape, including, club structures, pathways (talent and participation) and local football programs.
- Able to understand expectations, adapt quickly, and follow through on outcomes.
- Valid Driver’s Licence for occasional travel to events, carnivals, and club sites.
Desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Business Administration, Sport Management, or related field.
- Experience working with Volunteers and diverse stakeholder groups in community of sports settings.

Work Conditions:
This position will require:
- Occasional weekend work especially during peak competition times, carnivals and finals.
- Evening work to attend club meetings, events, or respond to fixture or competition issues may also be required.
- Required for major events, carnivals, finals, or meetings – travel outside Metro Brisbane.
