Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

NBC Sports is seeking a Manager of Broadcast Design Engineering to support the planning, implementation, and sustainment of technical systems used in live sports production, studio production, post-production, and other core broadcast environments. This role will manage day-to-day engineering design activities across studio, REMI, and field environments, translating production needs into technical solutions and ensuring projects are executed on time, within budget, and to NBC Sports’ quality standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical engineer with a strong understanding of modern broadcast infrastructure, IP-based media systems, and control workflows who thrives in a fast-paced live sports environment.

Responsibilities:

Design and document technical systems for remote production control rooms, studios, REMI fly packs, and remote broadcast environments.
Oversee and implement system integrations, including IP video/audio, intercom, routing, monitoring, and control systems.
Manage relationships with third-party system integrators and vendors to ensure systems are built, tested, and validated according to NBC Sports specifications and project timelines
Supervise a small team of staff engineers or contractors as assigned.
Support the commissioning and handoff of new builds and system modifications, ensuring technical documentation and as-built records are complete and accurate.
Create system drawings, signal flow diagrams, and rack elevations using tools such as AutoCAD and Lucid.
Collaborate with production, operations, and technology teams to design solutions that meet show and network standards.
Provide second-level engineering support for system issues identified by operations or maintenance staff.
Participate in technical evaluations of new products and workflows.
Assist in the design and deployment of backup, redundancy, and monitoring strategies to ensure reliability.
Support the VP of Engineering & Technology with capital planning, system lifecycle management, and budget tracking.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of experience in broadcast or production engineering with emphasis in design or integration roles.
Proven experience coordinating with third-party system integrators and vendors, managing deliverables, and overseeing compliance/acceptance testing.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of broadcast production equipment and standards, including video and audio routing, conversion, sync, control, networking and monitoring systems.
Proficiency with IP-based live production workflows and standards, such as SMPTE ST-2110, AES67, Dante, and NDI as well as legacy standards such as SDI, AES, and Analog audio.
Familiarity and experience with virtualized systems, hypervisors, cloud, and hybrid IP infrastructure.
Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and leadership skills.

Experience with broadcast technology systems including, but not limited to: EVS Cerebrum and Neuron, Arkona/Manifold Technologies, Calrec Audio systems such as Impulse and RP1, RTS Intercoms, Ross Ultrix, Bridge Technologies, Haivision, Medialinks, Appear, and Grass Valley AMPP.
Experience with networking technology systems including, but not limited to: Cisco IPFM, Cisco Nexus/Catalyst switches and routers, and technologies such as NBM, OSPF, EIGRP, VXLAN, STP, and BGP.
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, potentially with long term travel for tentpole events.
