Pay Rate: Hourly up to $33.65/ hour
Our client is looking for a Superintendent for their Golf Course located in Cape Coral, FL.
Under administrative direction of the Golf Professional Manager, this individual will perform professional administrative work for the Golf Course Division in overseeing and directing the activities of the golf staff in grounds and facilities maintenance.
You will oversee the comprehensive care and maintenance of assigned buildings, turf health, grounds and athletic complexes.
You will assist in budget development, implementation and maintenance and policy and procedure development and enforcement.
The position will:
- Direct the work of subordinate supervisory personnel.
- Perform extensive report and record maintenance activities.
Individuals assigned to this classification must report to work per their assigned schedule, which may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation: If assigned, employees in this classification will be required to report and carry out duties as directed for the duration of an emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job.

- Plans, directs and supervises the activities of the municipal Golf Maintenance Division and the care and maintenance of the Division's facilities and complexes.
- Plans, assigns, supervises and evaluates the work of staff, approving overtime, leave and scheduling and rendering discipline as required.
- Oversees the turf management program, sets the schedule of the management program and evaluates the needs.
- Monitors water usage, and reports to South Florida Water Management District on amount of water being used monthly to maintain the golf course and to Lee County Health Department on water quality for drinking purposes.
- Develops and implements division operating policies and procedures, establishing goals and objectives and strategies for evaluating operational effectiveness.
- Prepares and administers Golf Maintenance Division budget, controlling expenditures in accordance with budget appropriations.
- Evaluates Division needs and recommends staffing levels, materials, equipment and capital improvements, providing final approval for personnel hiring within the Division.
- Participates in the planning and development process for new facilities construction.
- Conducts appropriate research for writing specifications and future planning.
- Attends various department, public and Council meetings and works with committees and other municipal divisions concerning the coordination of events.
- Ensures the maintenance of systematic, accurate and complete records of the Division's activities, services, personnel and property.
- Performs considerable report and record maintenance activities, i.e., annual reports, staff evaluations and accident reports.
- Reviews, inspects, and researches equipment of Division and program operations, and provides regular inspection of grounds and facilities under charge.
- Orders chemicals and fertilizers, evaluates turf conditions and projects turf needs.
- Consults with other Parks and Recreation staff on their turf management needs.
- Conducts biweekly staff meetings and interfaces with the Golf Course Manager, Golf Professional and the general public on a daily basis.
- May be required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in turf management, golf course operations or a related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in golf course operations.
- Licenses or Certifications State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Bureau of Entomology and Pest Control Limited Lawn and Ornamental for Government Use Pesticide Applicators License (Chapter 482.155); or obtain within six (6) months of hire or promotion.
- State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Bureau of Compliance Ornamental and Turf License (Chapter 487); or obtain within six (6) months of hire or promotion.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Supervisory experience. Florida turf knowledge. Golf Course Superintendents Association of America membership.
