The West Coast Eagles is an iconic Australian sporting brand with over 100,000 members. The Club formed in August 1986, playing its first official match for premiership points in 1987. Our women’s side played its first game for AFLW premiership points in February 2020. Since then, the club has enjoyed significant success, winning premierships in 1992, 1994, 2006 and 2018. The club also has wide-spanning community and regional programs and is invested in a number of charity organisations, including the Waalitj Foundation.

About the role

The role is responsible for leading the operations and creative output of the design team while actively contributing as a hands-on designer. This role oversees all creative output, ensuring visual content aligns with brand guidelines and reflects the club’s identity. Working closely with Brand, Marketing & Digital Growth and wider departments, you’ll drive strategic direction, conceptual development, production and promotion of the club’s brand guidelines.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality design work across all required formats and channels, ensuring outputs align with brand guidelines and strategic objectives.
  • Managing multiple design projects simultaneously, balancing hands-on creative work with leadership responsibilities within timeframes and quality standards.
  • Managing design resources effectively by coordinating and prioritising requests, interpreting briefs, allocating work across the team, and overseeing timelines and external suppliers to ensure high-quality outputs are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Updating and maintaining the club’s style guides, ensuring brand requirements are clearly communicated and understood by all stakeholders to maintain consistency across all platforms and touchpoints.
  • Monitoring all creative outputs for compliance with brand identity and strategic objectives.
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing the design team to foster creativity, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to understand project requirements and deliver creative solutions that meet objectives, clearly communicating timelines, progress updates, and brand requirements.

Due to the nature of the industry and this role, there is an inherent requirement to work home match days and other club events which will include working some evenings and weekends.

Our ideal person

This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with strong planning and project management skills, combined with a self-motivated and dynamic attitude to drive creative excellence with strong leadership qualities. Additionally, it would be ideal if you had:

  • Advanced proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma) and familiarity with workflow tools.
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver complex design projects from concept to completion.
  • Ability to interpret briefs and translate strategic objectives into effective design solutions.
  • Ability to lead and develop a creative team, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Skilled in resource planning, prioritisation, and workflow optimisation.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging stakeholders and presenting creative concepts.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field would be highly regarded.
