Primary Purpose
Assist in the development of the football program under the leadership of the Head Football Coach. Help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. Provides students an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasure of sports and the principle of fair play.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Arkansas teaching license
- Clear and valid Arkansas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements or ability to achieve within 6 months
- Current first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
- Ability to instruct and supervise coaches and student athletes
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Pre-Season
- Confer with head coach on defenses and adjustments to be used in coming season
- Present notebook changes to staff at summer meeting(s)
- Supervise defenses in the junior high program with cooperation of head coach
- Formulate goals for the season
In Season
- Study film and scouting reports to formulate the defensive game plan through cooperation with head coach.
- Take charge of defensive practices and the defensive team. Instill pride, morale and intensity in the defenses
- Take charge of the defensive team on game nights with preparation, adjustments and substitutions in coordination with the head coach
- Make and keep records of defensive stats
- Create a written, organized and specific practice plan for every practice, including individual and team sessions
Post-Season
- Evaluate through film and charts the season with respect to goals
- Submit ideas or suggestions for next year in written form
Other
- Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
- Prolonged standing; kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping; frequent driving;
- Moderate grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching
- Frequent walking and physical movements associated with sport(s) assigned
- Frequently light lifting (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting or carrying
(15-44 pounds)
Environmental Demands
- Work outside (exposure to the sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside; frequent exposure to noise; frequent district wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and work around moving vehicles
- Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); operate a school bus
