About the role

As the Publicity Manager – Participation, you will play a critical leadership role in driving national awareness, engagement and public support for Tennis Australia’s grassroots tennis initiatives as well as programs aimed at increasing tennis participation for Women & Girls and broader Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

You will shape and deliver PR strategies that highlight our campaigns, ambassadors and community stories, emphasising the impact of our work to make tennis more accessible and welcoming to all communities.

Reporting to the Head of Public Relations, in this role you will:

  • Lead the development and execution of integrated publicity strategies that elevate Participation, Women & Girls (W&G) and DEI initiatives nationally.
  • Drive media relations by developing compelling story angles and securing national, metro and regional coverage that positions tennis as an inclusive sport for all.
  • Oversee media activity for major campaign launches, community programs, ambassador engagements and grassroots events.
  • Collaborate with Events, Marketing and Digital teams to deliver cohesive, consistent storytelling across all channels.
  • Partner with the Head of W&G and key DEI and Participation leaders to ensure communications align with strategy and reflect authentic representation.
  • Evaluate publicity performance and apply data informed‑ insights to continually strengthen campaign effectiveness.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Significant public relations experience, delivering communication strategies and leading teams
  • Tertiary qualification in public relations / media / journalism or equivalent experience
  • Strong ability to identify high‑impact stories and consistently secure media coverage across national, metro and regional outlets.
  • Deep understanding of commercial partner relationships and the opportunities to work closely with the commercial team to leverage them
  • Expertise in setting priorities, managing complex timelines, and delivering results within tight deadlines. Capable of leading teams and coordinating multiple projects
  • Outstanding oral and written communication
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Preparedness to be flexible in regard to working hours and arrangements relating to work associated with Tennis Australia
