Under the supervision of the Golf Grounds Manager, the employee performs general maintenance and upkeep of the golf course grounds and facilities. This employee operates and maintains a variety of lawn and power equipment to ensure the golf course is maintained according to City standards, policies, and procedures.  The employee also assists with building maintenance and repairs. General inspection of equipment is performed daily to ensure efficient operation. The employee performs manual labor to ensure golf greens are maintained and free of debris. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screenings.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned.  A person with a disability which is covered by the ADA must be able to perform the essential functions of the job unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:  Golf Grounds Maintenance.  Performs maintenance duties on the golf turf to include cutting grass, picking up debris, and operating various equipment to ensure greens are maintained according to the City’s standards.
 

  1. Performs all scheduled and preventive maintenance associated with golf course.
  2. Maintains fairways and all adjacent golf course property.
  3. Operates various types of lawn mowers such as zero turn, fairway unit, and greens mower for cutting the turf to ensure proper trimming and maintenance.
  4. Operates small equipment such as a hedge trimmer, chain saw, and limb saw in order to trim bushes, shrubs, and tree limbs. 
  5. Performs preventive and light maintenance on equipment to include checking oil and fluids, changing belts, and sharpening and changing blades.
  6. Performs manual labor such as picking up excess pine straw, pinecones, leaves, and weeds.
  7. Removes trash and debris from golf grounds to ensure sanitary conditions and proper appearance.
  8. Weed eats around trees and shrubs for proper trimming.
  9. Visually inspects equipment to assess for malfunctions or inefficiency.
  10. Listens for ques during equipment operation to assess for proper operation and any malfunctions. 
  11. Changes the cups on the greens to ensure smoothness.
  12. Inspects cups to ensure proper cup location, cups are in fair condition, and flags are in proper location.
  13. Maintains bunkers to include raking and picking up and removing debris.
  14. Plants grass, trees, shrubs, or flowers according to instructions and planned design of landscaped area.
  15. Applies mulch and pine straw to designated areas.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Building Maintenance. Performs cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs to assist with the efficient and effective operations of the golf course facilities. 
 
  1. Performs preventative maintenance of facilities and buildings.
  2. Performs cleaning buildings and washes windows using brooms and cleaning supplies.
  3. Performs minor repairs of buildings and facilities.
  4. Picks up trash and debris.
  5. Utilizes the backpack blower to blow dust and debris from out and around the shop and golf course.
  6. Assists and supports the mechanic, when necessary.
 
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
 
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Minimum of one (1) year previous work experience on a golf course is required.
  3. Possess a current and valid driver’s license; must be insurable.
  4. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

Physical Demands
 The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as record boxes.  The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
 
 
Work Environment
 The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc.  Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
