Position Summary:

The Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all golf course maintenance equipment. This includes diagnosing and repairing mechanical defects, maintaining records of parts and labor, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment. The Equipment Manager communicates effectively with the Director of Agronomy, Golf Course Superintendent, and supervises the Mechanic's work assignments. 

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Instruct and train maintenance workers on preventive maintenance and safe equipment operation.
  • Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance program within budget constraints, including purchasing repair parts and supplies.
  • Keep detailed records of equipment conditions, parts inventory, repair costs, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct spot checks on equipment performance on the course and make emergency repairs when necessary.
  • Service or supervise the servicing of equipment before use.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automobile apparatuses.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of equipment repair tools.
  • Understanding of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate maintenance solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to address staff needs and inquiries.
  • Ability to read budgets and interpret numerical data.
  • Analytical skills to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in using computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing at least 50 lbs.
  • Capable of performing tasks such as lifting, climbing, and stooping in a shop or field environment.
  • Comfortable working with moving mechanical parts and in varying weather conditions.
  • Must possess adequate vision for close work, distance viewing, color distinction, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Stamina to work in environments where exposure to dust, grease, and noise may occur.
  • Willingness to occasionally handle chemicals or fumes.
  • Ability to adapt to physical demands including bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and vibration.
  • Work may take place in a shop or field environment, involving tasks such as lifting, climbing, stooping, and exposure to dust, grease, and noise.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
