As a Banquet Captain at Sea Island, you deliver extraordinary guest experiences every day. You are a gracious ambassador for Sea Island with every interaction. You create and maintain an atmosphere of anticipatory service that is friendly, attentive, and timely, ensuring banquet and public areas that always meet our high standards of organization and cleanliness. As a leader on our Food and Beverage team, you live and share your passion for genuine hospitality in your commitment to enriching lives.

In this key role, you supervise banquet functions to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently as you model, uphold and ensure compliance with all Sea Island procedures and Food and Beverage standards. In overseeing the work of Banquet team members, you conduct pre-function meetings to review all information pertinent to the set-up and service of each function. You monitor attendance, assign stations and side work to Servers, and coordinate breaks for all team members, fostering a cooperative working climate while maximizing productivity.

You inspect scheduled function areas and rooms for cleanliness and proper furniture and equipment set up, staying aware of any Housekeeping or Engineering needs and reporting deficiencies to the appropriate department. Maintaining a high level of coordination and teamwork, you monitor the banquet, catering, and meeting facilities to ensure organization at each event. You check buffet tables and coffee breaks for cleanliness, attractiveness, and layout and ensure replenishment of items as specified on event orders, communicating additions or changes to the assignments as they arise throughout the shift.

At the conclusion of each event, you ensure that unused food is returned to the kitchen, that designated condiments are broken down and properly stored, and that all banquet supplies are returned to designated storage areas. You total all charges for the function and prepare and present a check to the function contact for payment, adhering to all policies and procedures for payment processing. You complete all paperwork and ensure all closing duties are completed before team members sign out.

Additionally, you communicate effectively with department leadership, providing feedback on team member performance and assisting with coaching, training, and development of existing team members and new hires.

Job Essentials:

  • Monitor inventories of all required materials and order as necessary.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance to ensure banquet and public spaces are always guest ready.
  • Consistently follow your team’s processes and procedures, including standards for quality, timing, attendance, appearance, and lost and found items.
  • Maintain Sea Island’s standards for food safety and sanitation, meeting or exceeding local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, and following all safety protocols including appropriate use of chemicals, Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Maintain knowledge of Sea Island’s properties, services, and offerings, and enthusiastically share this information with guests and members.
  • Help resolve service issues in a timely and positive way, following-up on issues as needed.
  • Willing and timely execution of other duties as delegated by leadership.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum two years Banquet or Food and Beverage experience
  • One year of supervisory experience, preferably in the hospitality industry
  • Must hold a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per policy requirements for driving a company vehicle and pass a yearly Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) review
  • Current ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire
  • Aptitude and ability to use a restaurant Point of Sale (POS) system successfully and accurately
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform a banquet service role, maintain ongoing, prolonged physical activity throughout a scheduled day to include lifting up to 50 pounds, working in a resort environment, comfort with noise levels, electrical, chemical, and fume hazards with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, squat, climb, stand, sit, balance, reach, stretch, bend, push, pull, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Timeliness and flexibility – you agree to work a flexible schedule. We work at peak business hours, which for us includes weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
