Athletic Director
Summary
The Athletic Director (AD) oversees all athletic programs and operations, ensuring compliance with NCHSAA regulations, school policies, and the mission of Lincoln Charter School. This position supervises coaches and volunteers, manages athletic events, facilities, budgets, and student-athlete eligibility, and promotes a culture of sportsmanship, excellence, and continuous program improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer all interscholastic athletics in compliance with NCHSAA rules, Board policy, and school expectations.
- Supervise, evaluate, and support coaches; oversee staffing, professional development, and program leadership.
- Develop and manage athletic schedules, contracts, officials, and game operations; ensure proper supervision and safekeeping of gate receipts.
- Maintain all required athlete records, eligibility documentation, medical forms, equipment inventories, and program archives.
- Oversee budgeting, purchasing, equipment care, and facility use in coordination with administrators and the Facilities team.
- Manage athletic facilities, weight-room procedures, and scheduling for internal and external groups.
- Promote program communication and publicity; collaborate with the Booster Club on events, awards programs, and game materials.
- Address conflicts, disciplinary matters, suspensions, and due-process requirements.
- Lead sportsmanship initiatives and ensure a welcoming environment for visiting teams and guests.
- Represent the school at conference, state, and national athletic meetings.
- Review and update athletic policies annually and continuously seek program improvements.
- Supervise all coaches and volunteers to uphold the mission of Lincoln Charter School.
- Coordinate the use of all athletic facilities in the school with the Chief Administrator by groups outside the school.
- Schedule physical examinations in accordance with the requirements of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
Qualifications
- Recommended and Preferred current Teacher’s License
- Recommended and Preferred NIAA Certified
- Recommended Certified Master Athletic Administrator
- Previous experience as coach and assistant athletic director
- Extensive knowledge of the overall operation of an athletic program
- Ability and willingness to administer athletic programs with fellow teachers and students
